Psychedelics can create revolution. Turning to the Black Literary Canon, we find a powerful Set, Setting and Container that transforms psychedelic journeys into a chrysalis for revolutionary consciousness.
We will connect Frederick Douglass and Assata Shakur to Albert Hoffman and Rick Doblin. We will trace a lineage of resistance, consciousness expansion, and liberation. How can psychedelics deepen our connection to historical struggles? How does writing become a portal for visionary change?
This immersive event will blend insightful discussion with hands-on practice, concluding with a writing workshop and guided psychedelic-inspired exercises designed to awaken creativity and revolutionize the way we see the world.
Bring a pad, a pen and your imagination.
Whether you’re a writer, a seeker, or simply curious about the intersection of literature, history, and psychedelics, this gathering is a space for inspiration, reflection, and connection. Join us in reclaiming the radical potential of psychedelic medicine—not just for individual healing,…

Novelist, poet and Professor of Literature, Dr. Nicholas Powers hosts the “Black Psychedelic Revolution: How to Make Altered States into Literature” workshop. Learn how to put front and center, altered states of consciousness into prose and poetry, using models from Walter Benjamin to Rick James. Specifically, we use the genre of the vignette with conflict analysis to practice at composing short essays.
